I know the “art of cua trai, not” video was in the spirit of fun. but i’m very concerned about the clip with the girl sucking the ice popsicle sitting between 2 guys, and again here. i find it in poor taste and denigrating to women, even though we’ve seen so much of it in mainstream society that we’re grown accustomed to it. i know because i didn’t think about it much before. and i’m a guy. if this is what trehouston promotes then i don’t want to be a part of it. sure you can say it’s just a joke, that’s what abercrombie & fitch wants you to do anyway.

  2. 2 Charlie Posted October 30th, 2007 - 12:20 am

Hey, I saw the art of cua trai and I thought it was fine. All I saw was a girl eating ice cream. How are you supposed to eat ice cream? Bite it right off the bat? How was it poor taste and derogatory? I think you’re taking the video too seriously. Calm down for a moment. I think the video was completely harmless, I’m really interested in joining now because of all of the camaraderie and work they put into all of this. Oh and of all the times I shop at Abercrombie and Fitch, I never ever see anyone eating ice cream. Abercrombie and Fitch provides quality clothing. I wear the clothing all the time. Are you attacking a brand name now? What’s the deal!?

    hahahaha.
    now you see.
tre houston is willing to go where no mankind/womankind has ever been..

LT, If you can’t handle a joke like that, most likely, you won’t get along with this group of people. So it’s a win win situation. Good job guys! If I were in Houston, I would definitely join you guys.

  5. 5 LT Posted October 30th, 2007 - 1:55 pm

haha, i thought someone would make the ice cream argument… no DUH dude, all she did was eat an ice cream, but you’ve got to be stupid not to understand the obvious connotation, come on… it’s been done like a million times. I don’t think Duy Anh was being constipated sitting beside her. dude, man, dudes… I already handled the joke, I got it, i’m not bashing the video, chillllaxxx. i’m more calm than u charlie. no i’m not attacking the brand name, geez man, i’m talking about the pop culture. anyway if you’re asian you’d remember the boycott about their allegedly racist t-shirts, but that wasn’t my point. i have at least 10 things from A&F. i mean they’re part of the culture that put out messages like “Who needs brains when you have these?” (please don’t tell me it’s these eyes or whatever). read the news sometimes, i just used A&F b/c they’re on the news all the time about this stuff. and like i said, it’s so common and regular in the culture and it’s worked so well that u guys are going out of ur ways to defend it, lol. i just wanted to clear that up, i didn’t wanna upset u abercrombie mo-đồ, dude, man dudes!! okê xơ ri!
btw, sorry i was being harsh, i’d still support trehouston, whoo!

dude, it’s however you view it as, and it’s fine that you don’t like it, and the comment was helpful, but i mean, there’s nothing “poor taste and denigrating to women” at all. However, it’s good that you speak up your mind and let us know your thought. Thank you

  12. 12 LT Posted October 31st, 2007 - 4:05 pm

kimmy, i dunno if i should be glad or sad that you’ve just proved my point, albeit you’re still in high school. to see “nothing” wrong with it? i would have been ok if u said “i see where you’re coming from” or “i can see why you think so,” but “nothing”? i’m not challenging your right to feel/be sexy, by all means please DO! (if ur over 18, if not please disregard that statement :) i just want u to see it from a different perspective, again i’m not condemning the video. be like Neo, see the ‘Matrix’… if that makes sense. thanks for being open-minded though. Case in point: google ‘Amish shooting’ and you’ll find some stories about the 5 schoolgirls who were killed “execution style”, NONE will mention that only girls were targeted (sexism?), if he had divided the white and black kids and shot the black kids, we’d still be talking about it, racism on every front page (Jena 6 anyone?). The korean guy who massacred 33 people at V-Tech, he was dumped by his “girlfriend” right before that. I don’t have to go into rape. Violence and sex - this is why i am concerned. Darn… now i just gone and killed the fun. Sorry y’all. I have nothing against girls dancing in sexy bikinis, just no respect for one who flashes her boobs for some attention.
Now about censorship, I have nothing against it, I’m as liberal as they come when it comes to censorship… unless we can censor killing. I’d rather sit on a pedestal and feel superior rather than censoring just because i do’nt like it. Haha I kid.. I kid… or am I?

  13. 13 Charlie Posted October 31st, 2007 - 6:15 pm

    …………………. or are there?

    hahaha i joke……………………………

  18. 18 WC Posted November 1st, 2007 - 12:05 am

LT, you bring up a very good point, but your examples are very poor. That is why it is confusing, and led to further confusion. The video, while being a sexual innuendo, is not at an extreme end of sexism, based on my individual opinion. The fact that it is a taboo subject in some communities is what makes it touchy. In the future, please do not confuse sexism and racism together. One affects half the population, and the other affects parts of a community.

Tre Houston - please remember that you are setting a precedent, and please be a responsible community.

  19. 19 Trang Luu Posted November 1st, 2007 - 1:24 am

  20. 20 rojelio Posted November 1st, 2007 - 2:02 am

    i agree w/ Khanh..LT is Luu Trang..

  21. 21 LT Posted November 1st, 2007 - 10:38 am

Thanks WC. Yes I wasn’t being very clear at the onset to explain my thought. I agree that the innuendo (good word) isn’t at the extreme, but I do believe in the theory that everything adds up. My point being we don’t have to censor, or even to not tolerate it, but just to recognize (or be aware) of what the sexual innuendo (great word) meant. Sex is VERY taboo in the Vietnamese culture, indeed… but sexism isn’t (ask your moms what con gái or con dâu should be/do). I don’t think my examples are poor either (if you’re talking about the schoolgirls and the V-Tech massacre). Going to the extreme is my scare tactic :) But if you don’t like it, fine, scratch that. Here’s an example that isn’t as extreme, rape (or is it?). IF (IF!) girls/women are to be seen as merely sexual objects, what is to keep more from being victimized? I think the sexual innuendo (awesome word) fits into this category, right? That and the a&f sexist slogans… in the theory that everything adds up, of course.
I don’t believe I confused sexism and racism (was I that confusing?), I just brought up the fact that racism brings about more hoo-hahs than sexism. Besides, shouldn’t something that affects half the population be more touchy?

    I’m still a guy

  22. 22 ShadowKick17 Posted November 1st, 2007 - 8:35 pm

I agree with Lieutenant Theo wholeheartedly. I think compassion and good thoughts combined with a genuine sincerity and generous heart are essential for the preserverance of TreHouston.

  23. 23 Trang Luu Posted November 2nd, 2007 - 12:15 am

    to Khanh @ Rojelio
LT is still a guy yall!!
    hehe

  24. 24 Thế Hoài Posted November 6th, 2007 - 4:51 pm

    awesome & cool !

Thanks for doing it! It’s very entertaining!

  25. 25 uncle 9 Posted November 20th, 2007 - 7:09 pm

*yawn… you guys are still arguing ?
    yada yada yada

If anyone is looking up to me to act in my “holy way,” you are in for some big dissapointments.

I’m not here to please you nor to lead you. All I am here to do is to say - ‘hey I have fun doing this with the community - maybe you should join.”

Not that I deny all the validity of these arguments, but there’s a 1000 ways to disect how a situation could have been handle better while you actually only get to do it once & live to enjoy it.

My regrets does not rest here.
